This is an urgent appeal to boaters worldwide to help restore the Falls of Clyde – a four-masted full-rigged ship still afloat at Honolulu.

Time is now critical: officials in Hawaii have threatened to destroy the vessel if it is not relocated, as they want the wharf space.

It’s important to note that skilled hands in Scotland will do the restoration. The immediate need now is to cover the cost of transport from Hawaii to Glasgow. That done, additional donations can cover the refitting.

Readers are referred to the website, “Save Falls of Clyde International”, which takes donations and also has photos and additional information.

Other funding efforts have proven inadequate. I am trying a direct appeal to the millions of people involved in boating.

The Falls of Clyde was launched near Glasgow in 1878, the first of several named for waterfalls in Scotland. Her first voyage was to Karachi, and she was in the India trade for about six years.
