Pay television network Fox International Channels (FIC) announced it will replace Star Movies with Fox Movies Premium in Hong Kong and key Southeast Asian markets.
The new service will be launched in January next year, and existing subscribers to Star Movies will migrate to it.
The Star Movies brand will continue in Taiwan and the Philippines, which have been left out because the digital presence in those markets is not large enough now, said Zubin Gandevia, FIC's chief operating officer, Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
He said he couldn't reveal the number of existing subscribers in Hong Kong but believed the overall viewership would increase.
The core content of Fox Movies Premium will be movies, but the company said it also plans to offer documentaries, fashion shows, awards events like the Oscars, performances and concerts.
FIC also said that in conjunction with the new service, it will launch a new online pay television player, Fox Movies Premium Play, which will allow subscribers to Fox Movies Premium to watch programmes on platforms other than the television.
