This week we test: nail polish remover

Jocelyn Wong

Make sure you thoroughly remove old polish before applying a fresh colour, to help strengthen nails and prevent staining.

Orbis Nail Remover (HK$49/15g)

Not only does it effectively remove polish, the smell is less offensively pungent than most brands. 7/10

Skinfood Grapefruit Nail Polish Remover (HK$40/100ml)

Finally, a remover that smells delicious! That is, if you like citrus scents. But remember, this is still full of chemicals, so use it quickly and don't enjoy the smell for too long. 8/10

DHC Nail Enamel Remover (HK$180/115ml)

Removes even thick layers of polish in one sweep, and doesn't have that stinging feeling some products do. It may be costly, but you need less than with most other removers. An added bonus is the fruity, biscuity smell. 9/10

Missha the Style Nail Polish Remover (HK$20/100ml)

A pleasantly sweet honey smell makes this reasonably-priced product stand out. Removal takes a bit of elbow grease, but nails are left smooth and shiny. 7/10

Paul & Joe Enamel Remover (HK$140/100ml)

A wonderful-smelling product that takes off varnish without stinging. It also comes in a really cute bottle - a definite plus! 9/10
