PAUL Brettell, the Hong Kong Sports Institute's out-going chief executive, has landed the top job with one of Australia's leading horse racing clubs.

Brettell, 49, has been appointed chief executive of the Moonee Valley Racing Club in Melbourne and will take up his new post in early October.

The former Australian Institute of Sport board member has been in Hong Kong for more than seven years.

He was second in charge to Howard Wells at the Jubilee Sports Centre and took over the chief executive post in 1989 after Wells became executive director of the Sports Development Board.

He played a major role in transforming the JSC into the territory's official institute for sport.
