TWO bullets in the brain were the final refrain for European singing star, Frederik van Pallandt, a member of Dutch royalty gunned down exactly a week ago at his remote Philippine island retreat.

Van Pallandt, 62, was one half of the singing duo, Nina and Frederik, who were often called the Peter, Paul and Mary of Europe in the 1960s.

He was executed with his Filipino girlfriend in gangland fashion that jolted the sleepy port town of Puerto Galera, south of Manila.

His ex-wife Nina, a former film actress who is living in the United States, left Puerto Galera yesterday.

Van Pallandt, a Dutch baron also known as Frederick Jon Gustav who held both British and Dutch passports, was shot twice at close range with a .45 calibre gun at 9 pm last Sunday.

His girlfriend, Perpetua ''Susan'' Tapon, was slain seconds later as she tried to flee the attackers outside the couple's home on Boquete Island near Puerto Galera.
