A REGIMENT that will ''probably be the shortest-living regiment in British history'' will be formed today in Hong Kong.
The new unit, the Hong Kong Logistic Support Regiment, will be part of the Royal Logistics Corps and take over all the functions of the corps, a Garrison spokesman said yesterday.
''It is part of the wind-down of the whole Garrison: we are drawing all the logistics into one regiment.'' The regiment would be disbanded before June 1997, he said, making it probably the shortest-living regiment in the British Army.
Until today the logistical units have been under the command of several high-ranking officers. The new regiment will have a single commanding officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Nigel Lloyd, of the Royal Logistics Corps.
