A 20-year-old man who took his father's car for a drive after stealing an identity card and driving licence from a friend pleaded guilty to five charges yesterday. 
Ricky Suen Wai-kin said he stole the car and drove without a licence because he wanted to take a female friend to the movies, court documents said. 
His defence counsel told the court yesterday that Suen had also been curious about driving. 
The court heard that Suen, who recently found a part-time job in a boutique, had been learning to drive and planned to take his driving test next month. 
Suen was charged with taking a conveyance without a licence, theft, possessing the identity card of another, driving without a licence and using a vehicle without third-party insurance. 
He pleaded guilty to the charges yesterday in Kowloon City Court.
Court documents said Suen had stolen the identity card and driving licence from a friend in early April.
Police spotted him acting furtively while driving in Ho Man Tin Estate,  Kowloon City, in late April and asked him  for his identity card and driving licence. He presented the ones stolen from his friend and then admitted that he did not hold a valid  licence. He also confessed to having stolen his friend's identity card and driving licence and to taking the car without telling his father. 
Magistrate Peter Law Tak-chuen adjourned sentencing until September 15. Suen was remanded in custody.
