Who created it? Born in Israel, Sari Gueron grew up in Connecticut, in the United States. Even though she was a tomboy during her youth, she went on to study fashion design at Rhode Island School of Design, becoming fascinated with the construction of the dress. After graduating in 1997, she interned with designers such as John Galliano, Robert Danes and Oscar de la Renta. She founded her label in 2003 but it wasn't until 2005 that she won rave reviews for a simple collection of 13 airy dresses with handkerchief hemlines. Her clothes are available at stores such as Barneys New York and Bergdorf Goodman. Her gowns have been worn by actresses such as Chloe Sevigny and Natalie Portman and she shows at New York Fashion Week.
Why we love it: the clothes have a 1920s or 30s vibe, creating a look that is vintage while being contemporary. Gueron has expanded her repertoire from dresses to separates, creating easy-to-wear pieces made from unusual fabrics.
Her spring collection is sexier than that of previous seasons and features body-conscious dresses with ruffles and sheer panels. Some pieces are inspired by Chinese diver Guo Jingjing, such as the racer back styles with embellishments.
What we'd pick: the sheer red dress (far left; HK$15,500) with ruffles down the front, or the white shirt dress (left; HK$7,900) for a more casual look.
