Liu Chia-chang pities Jill 'Wai See' Vidal, who is at the centre of a drug scandal.

'What kid doesn't make mistakes?' said the Taiwanese vocal teacher (left, with Vidal's twin sister, singer Janice 'Wai Lan' Vidal).

Janice Vidal is a guest at Liu's concert series, Liu Chia-chang Music Alive, at the Coliseum, which ends tonight. And at a rehearsal this week, Liu said the scandal might affect Janice Vidal's performance. 'Every performance depends on the emotions of the performers, but I will support Janice,' he said. 'I hope people will have mercy on Wai See.'

Canto-pop singers Kelvin Kwan Chor-yiu and Jill Vidal were arrested in Shibuya, Tokyo, on February 24 on suspicion of shoplifting and drug possession after a small amount of cannabis was found in their luggage. They remain in police custody.

Liu is currently involved in a case in Taiwan, where he is suspected of embezzling NT$600 million (HK$136 million) from two art companies owned by the Kuomintang. Liu said he would reassure Janice that her sister's case could not compare to his.

'I will tell Janice that there are solutions to problems even as big as mine, so don't worry,' he said.
