Wedding promotion takes the cake

Engaged singer Kelly Chen Wai-lam seems to be using her impending nuptials for career advancement - or she's just trying to get her whole wedding subsidised. Last week she appeared at a jewellery shop plugging some rings and, this week, she was at Maxim's Restaurant at City Hall promoting its Chinese wedding cakes. In case we couldn't take a hint, she was carried onstage in a traditional bridal carriage.

After the event, the cheerful Chen even handed out wedding cakes to reporters and said jokingly (or maybe not) that she was saving a lot of money for her fiance - long-time boyfriend Alex Lau Kin-ho - since all the cakes at their wedding would now be sponsored by the catering company. The Canto-pop artist added that getting ready for the big day had been, well, a piece of cake for her. However, her groom had been more of a nervous wreck.

'I am not very nervous at all about the wedding - it's so much easier than performing a concert - but I think Alex is,' Chen revealed. 'He is at the moment trying to lose some weight and on a diet. He seems to be doing really well lately.'

The wedding will be some time next month. Do you think we'll see her modelling bridal gowns next week?
