1 High-fibre crackers sound like something designed for dieters, but the Dr Karg organic wholegrain crispbread has enough flavour to be enjoyed by everyone (especially when it's spread with rich, ripe brie). The three-seed crackers cost HK$47.50 for a 200 gram packet from Great, Pacific Place, Admiralty (tel: 2918 9986); they also come in roasted onion, seeded spelt and Emmental cheese with pumpkin flavours.

2 The pomegranate has been touted as one of the new superfoods, as it is high in antioxidants, vitamins and potassium. Pom Wonderful's 473ml bottles are said to contain the juice of five pomegranates. The flavour of the deep-purple juice is tart and intense, and might be better diluted with a little soda water. A bottle costs HK$66 from Oliver's (tel: 2810 7710).

3 It's recommended that cooks use separate cutting boards for different foods to prevent cross contamination between raw and cooked items, but it's not always easy to remember which one you have reserved for which task. The colour-coded cutting boards from Joseph Joseph take the guesswork out of the equation; each has a little illustration of fish, meat, vegetables or cooked food. The four non-slip boards come in a neat case and cost HK$650. Sets are available from Pylones (shop 3229, Gateway Arcade, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 3188 5928), Exclusivites (1 Duddell Street, Central, tel: 2521 8626), Great (tel: 2918 9986), G.O.D. (Leighton Centre, Sharp Street East entrance, Causeway Bay, tel: 2890 5555) and LCX (3/F, Ocean Terminal, Harbour City, tel: 3102 3668).

4 Biscuits that are wheat-, dairy- and gluten-free usually taste like sack cloth, but the organic almond cookies by Against the Grain are delicate, crumbly and delicious. A 150 gram box costs HK$44 from Little Giant (15/F, Chung Wai Commercial Building, 447 Lockhart Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2573 3610).
