Mainland singer's onstage kiss sets tongues wagging
It started with a kiss ... Mainland singer Hins Cheung King-hin played his first solo concert at the Coliseum last Saturday. He is one of only a few mainland singers, including the Father of Chinese Rock, Cui Jian, who have ever played a concert at the venue that local singers hold sacred. But what kept the press wondering was the Guangzhou-born singer's sexual orientation, not his music.
Cheung has been romantically linked with fellow female singer Ivana Wong Yuen-chi and male singer Kenny Kwan Chi-bun. Cheung neither confirms nor denies his private business with the local media, but has often joked how close he is to both singers.
As of Saturday night, there's a new name he can add to the list. As Cheung introduced the next guest singer on stage, he mentioned how important this man had been in his life and that his surname was Kwan.
The audience, assuming it was Kenny Kwan, began to scream his name.
But in fact it was another celebrity, Kelvin Kwan Chor-yiu (right, in white shirt), who raced up and kissed Cheung on the lips, which stunned the mainland singer.
'You stole away my first kiss at the Coliseum,' said Cheung. But Kelvin Kwan joked: 'I thought you wouldn't mind because I am also named Kwan' - hinting at Kenny Kwan. 'I treat him like my little brother, but the kiss was really something unexpected,' Cheung said after the concert.
