Hong Kong coach Tony Choi Yuk-kwan was basking in the glory of a double success last night - at opposite ends of the world.
Rebecca Chiu Wing-yin (pictured), Hong Kong's top women's player, completed a remarkable run at the Goshen Open in Indiana where she beat Samantha Teran of Mexico 3-9, 9-1, 9-3, 9-5 in the final for her first title on American soil.
And just as the sun set in the US, and began to rise in Tokyo, Choi was about to enjoy the pleasure of a second title - at the East Asian Team Championships.
Choi had opted for a second-string side for the tournament and they did not let him down, beating Japan 5-0 to complete a clean sweep of all opposition in the round-robin event, which also included South Korea, Macau, Taiwan and China
'This is really double happiness for us,' Choi said last night from Tokyo. 'I'm really pleased for Rebecca, but I'm equally happy for our young side in Japan.
'The reason why we brought such a young and relatively inexperienced side to Japan was to prepare for the 2009 East Asian Games in Hong Kong.
