Clothing magnate Samuel Chan Wing-sun last week threw open his luxury Bowen Road pad to the city's young and glamorous - with most of the guests admitting they had never met him before.

But while the crowd - from connected fashion and finance types to backpackers passing through - had no idea who the owner of the palatial residence was, they were more than happy to feast on the lavish barbecue prepared by the manager of YGM Trading and booze until the wee hours of Saturday morning.

YGM controls luxury brands Guy Laroche, Charles Jourdan, Michel Rene, Aquascutum and Ashworth.

Guests were promised 'good food, tunes, great company' in a bulk e-mail that passed quickly through the city last week. An attached map provided details of how to reach the secluded house (rumoured to have been designed by Lord Foster) from Happy Valley and Central.

As bikini-clad women and men in boxer shorts cavorted in the spectacular L-shaped swimming pool, Chan said he threw the open-house party 'just because it was time for one'.

'There are never any problems here, people just want to come and have fun,' he said, adding that it would be nice to sit under a fountain tipping water into the pool 'for a relaxing massage'.
