Interior designer
The director of design services company Draughtzman and one of the few women in interior design in Hong Kong, Alliot Cheng works from her office in a village house in Sha Tin. She founded the company in 2000 with her husband, Ziggy Koo, and says the green surroundings of her office give her the peace of mind to tackle such projects as the lobby of Two IFC and Tao Heung Museum in Wan Chai.

'In Hong Kong, I always go to Muji [various locations; www.muji.com.hk] because the quality is excellent and you can do all the assembling quite easily. There's also Design Link [11 St. Francis Street, Wan Chai, tel: 3113 8728], which has a fine collection of high-quality European furniture with innovative designs. In Europe, I like Callebert Brugge of the Netherlands. It has a lot of stuff that I've seen featured in various design magazines.'

'A breakfast table I designed [contractor: KingWood Engineering, tel: 2393 9600, about $5,000]. It's attached to a rail on the ceiling and I can move the table back and forth and have breakfast in bed. It saves space in my home, which is only 300 sq ft. The table surface is orange laminated glass, which creates a lively atmosphere when the sun shines in. I also like four vintage Eames armchairs I bought on eBay (www.ebay.com) for about $5,000, including transportation. They're made of fibreglass, which is a rarity because most Eames armchairs today are made of moulded plastic.'
