Korn were the baddies who gave kids back their nasty role models after the PC era that was grunge rock.
Rather than hubris about artistic identity, they sang/rapped adolescent odes to the frustrated, male-centric view of sex, sprinkled with stories of singer Jonathan Davis' tormented childhood and allusions to episodes of sexual abuse.

For their efforts, they were dubbed 'nu-metal'. And it worked. By the end of the 1990s they'd sold millions of albums and inspired a flash of shallow imitators.
