For many viewers, Flora Chan Wai-shan (right) was often considered the Dana Scully of local dramas. Like the X-Files character, Chan in her various serials, including her breakout hit Files of Justice, almost always played independent, righteous professional women who didn't need a man. Now it seems she doesn't need TVB either. The actress, also turned singer, has gone freelance. 'I was doing one drama after another and felt there was something missing in my life,' Chan explains at the Pok Oi Hospital's 86th anniversary celebration on Monday, where she performed a new song. 'So, I decided to leave TVB. It's about having the time to sit down and think of what is it in your life that you want.'
Now the hardworking freelancer, with a degree from Boston University, is juggling singing, acting in movies and song-writing in Hong Kong and across the mainland, as well as writing a column for a local weekly magazine. 'It's most important that you enjoy doing what you've chosen.'
