Making amends - after six years

IT might have taken six years, but I buried a ghost today. I crashed on stage 12 in the 1987 Hong Kong to Beijing Rally when I hit a very little tree.

That was the price I paid for not doing the reccie for the rally back then. This time I did and went out feeling confident. I was quickest through the stage and averaged 140 kph. To go through those trees at that speed takes real Finnish courage.

Most people probably don't realise just how fast that is in those conditions. I was pushing the car really hard.

When you feel confident everything just seems to fall into place. You forget about any problems you might have had and attack, and it worked today.

I said yesterday I was going to have my teammate Colin McRae for breakfast and my other colleague, Possum Bourne, for lunch, but it didn't quite work out that way.

I had Possum for breakfast - and it was delicious - but Colin will have to wait for lunch today instead.
