The anti-Bush documentary from director Michael Moore, Fahrenheit 9/11, could finally be coming to a cinema near you soon.

A local film distributor said it was close to signing a deal to bring the controversial, award-winning film to the city.

A passionate attack on US President George W. Bush's handling of the September 11 terrorist attacks, it has been shown around the world and grossed more than US$100 million in box-office receipts.

'We are close to signing a deal with the owner [of the film distribution rights],' said Lim Han Seng, regional manager for the Asian office of United International Pictures (UIP). 'If we complete the deal, [our Hong Kong agent] Panasia will distribute the film in Hong Kong.'

A spokeswoman for Panasia said it expected to be able to release the film before the end of next month.

The rights to the documentary are held by independent studio Lions Gate Film and its subsidiary Fellowship Adventure Group.
