TAIKOO (Xiamen) Aircraft Maintenance Co (TAECO) has been holding talks with a number of US and British companies interested in setting up complementary aircraft service operations in Xiamen.
TAECO is the consortium led by Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Co (HAECO) establishing a $487 million aero-engineering base in that city.
The companies which have approached TAECO are interested in taking it on as a partner to set up sister operations in the city to provide a range of more specialised services.
The fields being considered included landing gear and flight controller system maintenance and component supplies, said David Turnbull, managing director of HAECO, which holds a controlling 41 per cent stake in TAECO.
''We have the chance here of building up an aviation village in Xiamen,'' Mr Turnbull said.
The giant hangar to be built by TAECO will be capable of housing two Boeing 747-400s and will form the centrepiece of the so-called village.
To be manned by a 750-strong workforce, it will open in 1996.
