Summer's here and contemporary furniture brand Edra's thoughts have turned to the beach. Its new furniture collection by various designers takes its inspiration from Sardinian beachscapes, with colours resembling the sea's deep tones, fabrics emulating the texture of rocks and shapes reminiscent of fish, coral and sea sponges. Large modular sofa On The Rocks (right, $93,500) by Francesco Binfare, for example, is designed to look like rocks eroded by waves - although its thick polyurethane padding means it is far more comfortable. It comprises four irregularly shaped pieces that can be assembled in different configurations according to whim and need and has adjustable backs. The firm but soft Sponge armchair (right, $33,600) by young Dutch designer Peter Traag, looks like its name suggests, while Corallo ($50,300) by the Campana brothers is a sculptural seat made with hand-curved steel wire to give the effect of coral. This year's addition to the Paesaggi Italiani range (from $75,400), designer Marco Morozzi's system of dividing back panels (left), comes in bright colours and with its flexible structural elements, makes dividing a room easy. Edra's collection is available at Design & Distribution Link (11 St Francis Street, Wan Chai, tel: 3113 8728).
