SCHOOLBOY Eric Poon Tin-wai got his belated gift this week after he became the latest 10As student following the upgrade of his Form 5 public examination results.

The 17-year-old La Salle boy had his HKCEE Religious Studies upgraded from B(3) to A(2) after having the paper re-checked by the Examinations Authority.

This is an addition to the distinctions he already obtained in Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Chinese History, History and Chinese Literature.

The change gave him the honour of being the first arts student scoring 10As since the authority allowed candidates to sit for a maximum of 10 subjects in 1987.

Although the good news came a month later than the day of the HKCEE results released on August 10, Eric was excited and said it was ''better late than never''.

''I did not have much confidence in having my result upgraded. I was satisfied with nine As and a B, but my teacher and my father said I had always done well in Religious Studies and I should be earning a higher grade. They suggested I re-check the paper,'' he said.

''So I went ahead and asked for my paper to be re-checked, but I did not have high expectations.'' The outcome was a dream come true for Eric.
