CONRAD Hotels will be opening three new hotels in Malaysia and Indonesia before 1997.
The three hotels are the Conrad Kuala Lumpur, Conrad Surabaya and Conrad Jakarta.
The two properties in Indonesia are a response to the expected increase in visitors to the country over the next 10 years.
The group has signed a joint venture with PT Danayasa Arthatama to build and operate a 700-room luxury hotel which will be part of a 274-hectare mixed use complex of office, retail, residential and community development.
The entire project will be one of the largest urban redevelopments in Indonesia.
The hotel will cost US$240 million and Conrad will hold a 10 per cent interest in the property.
In Surabaya, the group will manage an $85 million 321-room luxury hotel and conference centre which is the anchor project of a multi-purpose complex which will be built and developed by PT Wisma Hartono Jaya.
