Pirated merchandise from the Hollywood hit Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is on sale in the SAR just days before the film opens on Thursday.
Labelled a 'top hit' or 'No 1' seller, fake Harry Potter VCDs, DVDs, video games, Lego creations and Game Boy adventures can easily be found in piracy black spots Tsuen Wan, Mongkok and Shamshuipo.
The Sunday Morning Post's discovery comes just a day after Customs chiefs revealed that the number of piracy cases almost doubled over the past year. Investigators also said syndicates were increasingly using young girls, one just 11 years old, as sellers in an attempt to avoid detection.
Crowds packed shopping malls to get the latest fakes, which largely sell for between $10 and $30, with the Game Boy fetching about $120.
'Nobody sells genuine Game Boy tapes any more because they are too expensive,' said one Shamshuipo stallholder.
Fake Harry Potter action figures and a whole set of characters, priced at $20 and $39, were also on sale.
