WHERE does craft end and art begin? Take your preconceptions with you to Selected Treasures on display at the Hongkong Visual Arts Centre, 7A Kennedy Road (inside Hongkong Park) and be prepared to have them turned upside-down by this fascinating exhibition.
It comes from Vancouver's Canadian Craft Museum which opened in May last year with A Treasury of Canadian Craft.
The inaugural show, featuring the work of 198 artists - or artisans, if you like - was the most comprehensive overview of Canadian craft ever mounted and Selected Treasures is just that: the pick of the best.
It comprises 116 exhibits created by 66 craft-makers from every province and territory in Canada, with materials ranging from clay and wood to glass, metal and fibre.
Whether simple or grand, whether for everyday use or employed in ceremonies and rituals, they reflect the rich diversity of Canadian traditions and culture.
Each has a distinctive beauty, says curator Sam Carter who will talk about Canadian Art and Craft: New Ideas and Tradition at the centre's lecture hall at 2pm today.
Tomorrow at the same time there will be a children's workshop, Magic Dragons, held in the centre's ceramic studio.
