Glam-girls gear up for super tennis challenge

The glamour girls of tennis are coming to town. Steffi Graf, Venus and Serena Williams and Anna Kournikova will be taking part in the Super-Power Challenge Cup, a new event presented by the Hong Kong Tennis Patrons Association in association with the Provisional Urban Council and the Hong Kong Tennis Association.

Anna Kournikova, 17, like Venus and Serena, represents the new glam generation. Currently ranked 11th in the world, Anna is known as much for her looks as her skills on the court. And she doesn't mind that she has become one of the most photographed women in sport.

'Why should I look ugly just because I'm an athlete?' she asks. With her skimpy clothes and long blonde hair, Anna will certainly grab lots of attention on the tennis courts in Victoria Park.

She is dating NHL hockey star and fellow Russian Sergei Fedorov, who plays for the Detroit Red Wings. Anna says that if she wasn't a professional tennis player, she would like to be an actress. Her favourite city is Paris, and her favourite tournaments are the French Open and Wimbledon.

The tournament, to be held from January 7-9, will also feature China's number one Li Fang, who is ranked 43rd in the world, as well as top Thai player Tamarin Tanasugarin. Hong Kong's top two, Tong Ka-po and Lillian Lin Ning, will complement the star-studded cast.
