THE North Carolina State Ports Authority has reported that the Wilmington Terminal has recorded a 25 per cent rise for the first two-thirds of the 1993 fiscal year, compared with the same period last year.

Mr P.A. Thomas, chairman of the North Carolina State Ports Authority board of directors, said the increases in breakbulk tonnage in Morehead City could be credited to the new cargoes which had been exported throughout the year.

''We are showing a 210 per cent increase in breakbulk tonnage for the fiscal year-to-date, primarily because of growth over the same time last year in steel billets and frozen poultry,'' he said.

According to Mr Thomas, both the Wilmington and Morehead City Terminals experienced growth for the period in forest products tonnage (excluding wood pulp) of 27 per cent and 61 per cent, respectively.

At Wilmington, wood pulp tonnage is 10 per cent greater than for the same period in Fiscal Year 1992.

And containerised tobacco tonnage at Wilmington was up 122 per cent over the previous fiscal year at this time, Mr Thomas noted.
