Hong Kong coach Timothy Darling says he will have to make the most difficult decision in his seven months in charge of the Asian Games squad when he picks his final 12 at the end of the month - difficult because he doesn't want anybody to lose their place.
Since arriving here in March, the Canadian has formed a close affiliation with the 17-strong squad, whom he calls his 'family'. And he's not looking forward to the day when he has to trim his squad down to the final 12 for Bangkok in compliance with Asian Games rules.
'They have all worked hard and made a big commitment. It will probably be the hardest decision I'll have to make since coming here. I'm not looking forward to it,' he said.
'I will choose my final 12 before the end of the month at the latest. I will keep two alternates [substitutes] in case there are injuries.
'I am pleased with the team's work ethic. It was very frustrating initially because they were playing in the league and it was difficult to get them out to practise consistently.
'Since the league finished [in June], they have been very good and have worked very hard. After gym, we usually have an hour in the classroom where we go over things, so it's very intense for the players.
'I really enjoyed working with the players. They have given me maximum effort every time they go to the gym and I know I can be quite demanding. We have spent a lot of time together, although we need to spend even more time with the group [as Bangkok approaches].
