Double vision forces rising star Kan to delay first mount
Top female apprentice Willy W. Y. Kan will have exploratory eye surgery following a summer fall in England that has left her with intermittent double vision.
The young claimer shot to stardom last term with a string of successes for trainer Brian Kan Ping-chee, who has carefully masterminded her early career.
Kan joined the northern English stable of Dandy Nicholls in the summer and suffered a concussion when she fell after winning an apprentices' race.
She was stood down for a month by the English Jockey Club and returned home to Hong Kong.
Trainer Kan said yesterday: 'She is going into hospital at the weekend and is due to have an operation. She is a good girl with a good future but this problem must be solved.' She looks certain to be on the sidelines for several months.
Race fans are also going to see more of Sherie Kong-Legrix on television rather than on the racetrack in the coming weeks.
The Jockey Club announced yesterday that Kong's indentures had been extended from July 1 to June 30 next year with Patrick Biancone, but her immediate racing duties will see her working for Jockey Club television on Sunday.
