Daniel Fung Wah-kin is to stick to his decision to quit as Solicitor-General.

Senior Counsel Mr Fung, whose contract expires in October, has told friends he has no ambition to succeed Elsie Leung Oi-sie as Secretary for Justice.

Miss Leung pleaded with Mr Fung to stay on after her recent treatment for cancer of the colon.

But Mr Fung, 45, is understood to consider his mission to assist her in running the department accomplished.

His interest is in his profession, not in politics, friends have been told.

Mr Fung plans to conduct research in constitutional development in China at Harvard University.
