Local National People's Congress deputies would be doing a disservice to Hong Kong if they tried to interfere in the SAR's affairs, according to newly-selected deputy Carson Wen Ka-shuen.
Mr Wen said deputies should not resort to the national forum as a means of solving SAR problems.
He predicted there would be no need for them to initiate resolutions targeting Hong Kong.
In 1994, local deputies, led by unionist Cheng Yiu-tong, succeeded in pushing for the NPC's adoption of a resolution on disbanding the three-tier political structure.
'The political environment was different at that time. It has changed since the handover,' Mr Wen said.
He believed his most important task as a deputy was to take part in national affairs instead of bringing about communication between the SAR and the mainland.
He would focus on improving the mainland's legal structure, particularly regarding the operation and structure of the Judiciary.
