Table tennis nets funds
Round one of the Hang Seng Hong Kong Cup for junior table tennis players starts on Sunday at the Kornwall Street Park Centre and the Yuen Wo Road Indoor Recreation Centre.
The annual competition attracts top local players under the age of 18. It is organised by the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association and the Provisional Urban and Regional councils, with support from the Hong Kong Sports Development Board.
Held over three Sundays, the competition is aimed at raising funds to help the SAR's under-privileged children get involved in sporting activities. The championships raised more than $600,000 over the past two years.
The money was used to send Hong Kong teams to international competitions at both senior and junior level.
This year, participating teams and corporations will be encouraged to raise funds for the Hong Kong Sports Association for the Physically Disabled. It will be spent on training programmes for athletes preparing for major competitions such as next year's World Table Tennis Championships for the Disabled.
