Stamp out driving menaces
I must say how happy I am to see so many speed traps deployed throughout Hong Kong in an attempt to make the roads safer for all.
However, I wonder why some of these resources are not used to combat other dangerous pursuits.
These include 'tailgating' (only a fool breaks the two-second rule) which is extremely dangerous at any speed; overtaking on the inside; 'rubber necking' (opposite lanes of traffic slowing down to view an accident on the adjacent carriageway subsequently causing a traffic jam); and using mobile telephones while driving (in such a leading society as Hong Kong, why is this not an offence as in all other forward-thinking nations?).
These life-threatening stunts can be witnessed at any time night or day at regular intervals on, for example, the Tuen Mun Highway, and it is not unusual to witness drivers commit more than one at a time.
Another 'sport' which is catching on is jumping traffic lights, (red may be a lucky colour, but not in this case). I assume it is not just a case of me being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I hope someone in authority can throw some light on these points.
