Nellie Fong

Nellie Fong, deputy country managing partner for China at Arthur Andersen & Co, was born and raised in Hong Kong. She is a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and a fellow member of the Hong Kong Society of Accountants.

She began her career in Britain in 1968, returning to the territory in 1973 to join the Hong Kong office of Arthur Andersen. She became a partner in 1981. Ms Fong is a member of the executive council of Arthur Andersen worldwide and the vice-chairman of Andersen Hua Qiang, the firm's CPA joint venture in Beijing.

She is chairman of the executive committee of the Better Hong Kong Foundation, and has sat on and participated in many advisory committees and associations in Hong Kong.

Ms Fong was a member of the Urban Council from 1983-1989 and the Hong Kong Legislative Council from 1988-1991. In 1992, she became a Hong Kong Affairs Adviser to the Chinese Government.

She was appointed a member of the Preliminary Working Committee in 1993 and leads the economic sub-group. She is also a member of the Preparatory Committee and convenor of its economic sub-group.
