Ten boat people have put their court battle with the Government on hold because of new moves which could see them repatriated soon.
The legal action, in which they claim their detention is unlawful, was due to start at the High Court yesterday.
But Keith Oderberg, for the boat people, said no purpose would be served by pursuing it at this stage.
He told Mr Justice Brian Keith that the Director of Immigration was taking steps to secure the repatriation of the boat people.
The Vietnamese Government appeared to be co-operating and there was a realistic chance the detainees would soon be on their way back, he said. The 10 were originally among 173 taking joint action against the Government.
Dale Watson, for the Director of Immigration, said nearly half the original group had been released after a landmark Privy Council ruling in March.
The others had been sent back to Vietnam, either voluntarily or as part of the Orderly Repatriation Programme.
