Two American oil workers who got up close and personal with a tornado not only lived to tell the tale but managed to capture rare footage of the twister on film.

Abram Schiff sent a text message to neighbour Dan Yorgason on Monday evening to tell him that a storm was about to hit the trailer park where they are stationed in North Dakota.

Expecting a refreshing summer shower, Yorgason, 44, walked outside to check to weather. That’s when he saw the tornado approaching rapidly from the west.

The pair took a quick look at the storm and, realising the impending danger to their lives, ran to a nearby truck. They drove around the side of the tornado and filmed as the storm destroyed a reported 15 trailers and injured nine people in an adjoining trailer park.
