SEND the baby-sitter on holiday. Portico's in Citibank Plaza offers a Saturday brunch buffet for children with balloons and cartoons to boot.
While parents sip a Bloody Mary and wait for toast and omelettes, the tykes can help themselves to spaghetti and meat balls, barbecued chicken, pasta salad, potato salad, sushi, fruit cocktail, chocolate mousse, popcorn, milk and juices. Or, invade the kitchen where, under supervision, each can create their own pizza.
The cost of the buffet is $60 per person (pizza-making, $50). Hours are from 11.30am to 3pm. Portico, Citibank Plaza, 3 Garden Road, Central. Tel: 2523 8893. THIS month, Queenie So sails into the world of retail with the opening of Green Cottage Country Store on Lamma.
The founder of Green Cottage, an organic farm on Lamma, extends her considerable talents and environmental concerns with a new shop which features a small cafe, takeaway foods and shelves and coolers stocked with an array of environmentally friendly items, including recycled fax paper.
There are fresh organic vegetables, farm-fresh eggs and honeys from Ms So's farm. And legumes, nuts, fresh juices, whole grain pastas, herbal teas and baked goods, made locally.
'We're trying to perfect the whole grain croissants and muffins,' says Queenie. 'But they need a bit more work.' The whole grain breads, however, are ready to devour. For the ferry-commuters, there are sandwiches, coffee and tea for take-away. For the gardener, fertilisers, seeds and tools.
