The 2018 South China Morning Post China Conference opened with remarks from its Chief Executive Officer Gary Liu and Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor followed by a keynote speech from Zhang Yansheng, Adjunct Professor, Renmin University of China.

 

Zhang's address focussed on China’s foreign and domestic policies under its new leadership team. The SCMP China Conference also heard from the Hon. Tung Chee-hwa, the first Chief Executive and president of the Executive Council for Hong Kong after the transfer of sovereignty in 1997.

 

There were panel discussions on the impact of the Trump administration on the internationalisation of the RMB, China-US commercial and investment relationships, the commonalities between Chinese and Western cultures and values and Belt and Road infrastructure investment opportunities.
