Diego Costa strikes again to leave Liverpool reeling
Spanish forward smashes winner and his 10th goal of Premier League campaign to give unbeaten leaders Chelsea an impressive 2-1 away win
Diego Costa continued his remarkable start to life in the Premier League by scoring his 10th goal of the campaign as leaders Chelsea maintained their unbeaten start to the season by winning 2-1 at Liverpool on Saturday.
Bidding to avenge their costly 2-0 loss in last season's corresponding fixture in April, scene of captain Steven Gerrard's infamous slip, Liverpool took an early lead through Emre Can's deflected shot.
But Gary Cahill equalised almost immediately for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea before Costa slammed home 23 minutes from time to silence Anfield and provisionally increase his side's lead at the summit to seven points.
"It was a fantastic performance. The players as individuals all had a great performance and as a team they were in control," Mourinho told BT Sport.
"One point at Anfield, most teams would accept that as a great result. This team did not accept that and I am really, really pleased.
"This is a new team, a new era for Chelsea. We are obviously happy with the squad and the quality of football, but no team gets into history without trophies and, at the moment, this team has no trophies."
Chelsea captain John Terry said: "We have had a good run, we go into the international break with confidence and, hopefully, can continue our good form.
"The whole team is putting in big performances week in and week out, but Diego Costa has been at the heart of that."
