ONE Championship Friday Fights 13 results: Rambolek earns US$100,000 contract for knockout of Zhang Chenglong
- Thai became first fighter to earn a full-scale ONE contract through the promotion’s Friday Fights series, and also pocketed a US$10,000 bonus
- Four other fighters also earned bonuses at event in Lumpinee Stadium, including Thailand’s Thongpoon PK Saenchai, who posted a 20-second KO win
Rambolek Chor Ajalaboon is now the proud owner of a US$100,000 ONE Championship contract.
The 20-year-old Thai was back in action at ONE Friday Fights in Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium, where he took on the amply more experienced Zhang Chenglong of China in a bantamweight Muay Thai clash.
Rambolek ultimately won the fight with second-round knockout – his second win under the promotion’s banner after a stoppage of Theeradet Chor Hapayak at ONE Friday Fights 7 in March.
The victory was good for not only a US$10,000 bonus, but a full-blown contract with ONE – the first of its kind to be awarded in 13 Friday Fights events.
“I feel so happy, I was under a lot of pressure tonight,” he said in his post-fight interview with commentator Gianni Subba. “I want to thank everyone for supporting me for making me earn this day.”
While Rambolek was the only fighter to earn a contract at ONE Friday Fights 13, four other fighters earned US$10,000 bonuses.
The first to do so was Scotland’s “The King of the North” Nico Carrillo, who scored a second-round TKO win over Furkan Karabag in a featherweight Muay Thai fight.
“The King of the North has come to the east and he’s coming for everyone, and he’s causing havoc,” the 24-year-old Scotsman said after the win, which was his first under the ONE banner.
19-year-old Malaysian-Thai Aliff Sor Dechapan also earned a bonus for a second-round TKO win over Rittidet Kiatsongrit, which was contested under Muay Thai rules at a 119-pound catchweight.
The final two bonuses of the night went to Russia’s Natalia Diachkova, who posted a first-round KO against Dokmaipa Fairtex in a strawweight Muay Thai clash, and Thongpoon PK Saenchai, who picked up a 20-second knockout win over Petmongkol Soonkelahuaitom in a 118-pound catchweight Muay Thai contest.
“Thank you everyone for cheering me on today,” Thongpoon, who has now scored two finishes at Friday Fights events, said in his post-fight interview.
“I want to thank Khun Chatri for allowing me to be here,” he added, thanking ONE’s CEO Chatri Sityodtong, who decides which fighters receive bonuses.
ONE Friday Fights 13 was headlined by a flyweight Muay Thai clash between rival Thais Batman Or Atchariya and Paidang Kiatsongrit.
Paidang, 23, ultimately won the fight by unanimous decision on the strength of two first-round knock-downs, but he did not receive a bonus.
