UFC: Charles Oliveira wants to ‘knock Conor McGregor out’ and ‘make Nate Diaz tap’ in the same night

  • ‘Do Bronx’ defeated Justin Gaethje by first-round submission at UFC 274 last Saturday, and now eyes fights with two MMA superstars
  • Former double champ McGregor pulls no punches in quick response to the Brazilian on social media

Charles Oliveira is hoping to fight Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz – on the same night.

The Brazilian star is riding a first-round submission victory over Justin Gaethje, which headlined last Saturday’s UFC 274 event in Phoenix, Arizona. He arrived in town as the promotion’s lightweight champion, but was stripped of the title for missing weight, and deemed ineligible to reclaim it in victory.

Despite not currently being a champion, the 32-year-old is still attempting to call his shots like one.

“Just for the record, I like to break records and I want to break another one,” Oliveira, who holds the record for most finishes and submission wins in UFC history, wrote on Twitter on Tuesday night. “Fighting twice in the same night. I can knock Conor out, and make Diaz tap.”

Ireland’s McGregor, a former two-division UFC champ, and Diaz, the chief rival of the Irishman’s career, are two of the biggest stars in MMA history.

Oliveira has broached the idea of lucrative fights with both men previously, setting his sights on McGregor as recently as the UFC 274 post-fight press conference this past weekend.

“I have a daughter to provide for,” he said when asked about a fight with McGregor.

“It would be a great payday, great for my legacy as well, and that’s what this fight would be all about.”

Unfortunately for Oliveira, the 33-year-old McGregor does not seem too keen on the match-up.

Diaz has yet to respond to Oliveira’s call-out.

Before his victory over Gaethje, Oliveira (33-8) defended the UFC lightweight title with a second-round submission win over Dustin Poirier late last year. He won the vacant title with a knockout win over Michael Chandler earlier in 2021.

McGregor (22-6), meanwhile, has not fought since a TKO loss to Poirier last summer, which left him with a broken tibia. He is still recovering from that setback, which was his second in a row against Poirier after another TKO loss to the American last January.

The 37-year-old Diaz (20-13) was last in action in June 2021, when he lost a decision to top welterweight contender Leon Edwards. That loss was preceded by a TKO defeat at the hands of Jorge Masvidal, and a decision win over former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.
