UFC 252: Dana White not convinced Daniel Cormier retires, win or lose vs Stipe Miocic

  • ‘If Cormier wins in spectacular fashion this will not be his last fight,’ White thinks
  • UFC president certain former two-division champ ‘DC’ won’t want to go out on a loss, either

Daniel Cormier is adamant that win or lose on Saturday night at UFC 252, he’s walking away from MMA.

Dana White isn’t convinced, though.

Asked by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto what goes through his head when he hears Cormier say his heavyweight title trilogy against Stipe Miocic in Las Vegas is his last fight, the UFC president paused and smiled,

“[I think] ‘No, it’s not’,” White said.

“It’s obviously gonna depend on how the fight plays out on Saturday night,” he added. “If Cormier wins in spectacular fashion this will not be his last fight, and knowing him the way I do, if he loses then it’ll be, ‘I can’t go out like this’.”

There has also been talk that two-time champ Miocic could leave the sport on top should he retain his title and make his fourth successful defence.

DC says UFC 252 win puts him in same sphere as MJ, Peyton Manning

The 37-year-old said he thinks about retirement after every fight, but added “let’s see how long I go”.

“You know me, when people start talking about retiring, I think they should,” White added. “Stipe, who people were saying is probably gonna retire after this too, but he squashed this tonight.

“I don’t think either one of them should retire. They’re two of the best in the world and they’ve still got a lot left in them. We’ll see how the fight goes on Saturday.”
