Hong Kong women’s footballer Wai Yuen-ting leaves Albanian champions Vllaznia after history-making season

Hong Kong women’s football star Wai Yuen-ting has left club Vllaznia after a history-making stint with the Albanian champions.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder, who last month became the first Hongkonger ever to win a European football league title after Vllaznia earned their seventh consecutive title, could not reach an agreement with the club for next season.
Former Citizen player Wai has since returned to Hong Kong after playing her final game in the Albanian Cup competition. She played six league games in total since impressing in a trial at the start of July. She had previously said she would wait for the end of the season before negotiating her future.

The Shkoder-based outfit finished the 18-game season undefeated, only drawing once to second-placed Apolonia.

The parting of ways means Hong Kong will have to wait for its first taste of Uefa Champions League football, which Vllaznia have featured in for nearly a decade. Vllaznia had reached the last-16 of last season’s edition.

Wai has yet to reveal her next move in football as the respective Hong Kong men’s and women’s seasons continue to be on hold due to the global pandemic. National team captain Wai last played for Hong Kong in the Turkish Women’s Cup in Turkey in March this year.

Fellow Hong Kong national team player Remi Dujardin is also in talks to join Albanian men’s team FK Partizani Tirana but neither have confirmed a deal.
