Hong Kong’s Tiffany Chan eight shots off the lead at Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic
- Hong Kong’s top golfer follows first-round 64 with second-round 71 on Friday
- The 25-year-old is 9-under par in a tie for 20th place, with world No 1 Park Sung-hyun out in front on 17 under
Tiffany Chan Tsz-ching is eight shots off the lead at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic after following up her sizzling opening-round 64 with a 71 in Wisconsin on Friday.
Hong Kong’s top golfer is 9-under par overall after two rounds in the US, dropping down from a share of fourth place to a share of 20th going into the weekend.
The 25-year-old recovered from a bogey on the first hole with a birdie at the third, and finished the front nine by picking up another stroke.
Chan looked to be gaining steam after birdieing the par-4 11th but dropped another shot at the 14th to come in 1-under par for her second round.
South Korea’s Park Sung-hyun leads the way on 17-under par, after going even lower than her first-round 65 with an incredible 10-under par 62 on Friday.
World No 1 Park was flawless, racking up 10 birdies – five either side of the turn – without a blemish on her scorecard.
Yealimi Noh of the US is one shot back of Park on 16 under for her two rounds (63 and 65) while two-time major winner Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand is in third on 15 under.
American pair Mina Harigae and Tiffany Joh are in a tie for fourth on 14 under after hitting 63 and 66 respectively in their second rounds.
