Premier League fantasy football 2019-20 tips: transfer deadline day signings to pick in your squad

  • Plenty of big money moves as the window shuts in real life, meaning tough decisions for fantasy managers
  • Late arrivals in the league have been added while old faces have a new lease of life after changing clubs

The English Premier League transfer window closed on Thursday and Fantasy Premier League managers will experience the same drama on Friday ahead of the start of the season.

Liverpool host Norwich City in the opening game of the 2019-20 campaign and the deadline for FPL squads is an hour before the big kick off at 7pm BST (2am Hong Kong time).

The final hours of tinkering and tweaking will be unbearable for many fantasy managers, and it is made worse by the addition of the players who arrived in the Premier League on deadline day.

On top of that, there are the players who swapped clubs within the English top flight. These are the moves and new faces that you might want to consider as you shape your squad for gameweek one.

Goalkeepers

Michael Verrips – Sheffield United (4.5m)

The young Dutch stopper has joined Chris Wilder’s side as backup and with no Premier League experience. Unlikely to be a popular pick among fantasy managers.

Fantasy Premier League tips: forwards

Heurelho Gomes — Watford (4.5m)

The former Watford keeper has rejoined the Hornets after being out of contract in the summer. His role is firmly as backup to Ben Foster but he has done a solid job over the years in the Premier League.

Defenders

Emil Krafth – Newcastle United (4.5m)

The Swede has joined Steve Bruce’s side from French outfit Amiens and will play as either a right back or a right wing back for his new club. Expected to go straight into the squad for their opener against Arsenal.

Fantasy Premier League tips: midfielders

Kieran Tierney – Arsenal (5.5m)

Highly-rated Scotland international Tierney arrives from Celtic after impressing for them since breaking through as a teenager. The left back will be a fantasy hit if he can echo his Scotland captain, Liverpool’s John Robertson.

Djibril Sidibe – Everton (5.5m)

Big spending Everton have picked up a bargain in the loan deal for Fifa World Cup winning right back Sidibe. The France defender joins from Monaco to challenge Seamus Coleman and could be as inspired a choice as Lucas Digne was last season.

Fantasy Premier League tips: goalkeepers and defenders

Joao Cancelo – Manchester City (5.5m)

The Portugal full back has arrived from Juventus to challenge Kyle Walker at right back but can also cover for Benjamin Mendy on the left side of Pep Guardiola’s defence and fill in at right wing.

Fantasy Premier League 2019-20 hints and tips

David Luiz – Arsenal

The Brazilian has crossed London and become the latest to transfer between Chelsea and Arsenal. Once described as a “Playstation defender”, Luiz is a risk that could pay off with goals.

Midfielders

Alex Iwobi – Everton (6m)

The Nigeria winger has joined the growing ranks of exciting young players at Goodison Park. Expected to be a regular for Marco Silva this season.

Danny Drinkwater – Burnley (4.5m)

Some 139 players have made their debuts since Drinkwater last played in the Premier League but he has a chance to rebuild his career after leaving Chelsea on loan from Turf Moor. Can he rediscover the form that saw him crowned a champion with Leicester City?

Muhamed Besic – Sheffield United (4.5m)

The Bosnian has Premier League experience with Everton, where he impressed in fits and starts, but has been out of the top tier for 18 months while on loan at Middlesbrough. He’s never scored a Premier League goal.

Aaron Mooy – Brighton & Hove Albion (5m)

Huddersfield Town’s relegation has been a boon for Brighton and Mooy offers value. A set-piece specialist, the Australian will hope to be on free kicks and penalties for Graham Potter’s new look Seagulls.

Victor Camarasa – Crystal Palace (5m)

The Spain midfielder is known to fantasy managers from his exploits at Cardiff City last season. He did not set the world alight but could do a job as the fifth midfielder as he scored five times for the Bluebirds last season.

Dennis Praet – Leicester City (5.5m)

The Sampdoria attacking midfielder had long been linked with a move to the Premier League but it was unexpected that his final destination would be the King Power Stadium. Could be a bargain as Brendan Rodgers looks to play a more attacking game.

Ryan Sessegnon – Tottenham Hotspur (5.5m)

Fulham going down is not the end of Sessegnon’s time in the top flight and the 21-year-old should kick on under Mauricio Pochettino, although that might be in a left back role.

Ismaila Sarr – Watford (6.5m)

A record deal has brought the Rennes winger to Watford and fantasy managers will hope he can follow the success of other Senegalese stars such as Liverpool’s Sadio Mane.

Giovani Lo Celso – Tottenham Hotspur (7.5m)

The Argentina international has swapped La Liga for the Premier League and is seen as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen, who could still seal a move to Spain. If he can score half as many points as the Dane then he will be a steal.

Forwards

Andy Carroll – Newcastle United (5.5m)

The big man has returned to his hometown club and the one where he made his name. The Toon were crying out for a striker after Solomon Rondon’s loan ended and in Carroll they have an old fashioned No 9 that will suit Steve Bruce.

Danny Welbeck – Watford (6m)

The former Manchester United man arrived at Vicarage Road on a free after being released by Arsenal. Welbeck is injury prone but if he can stay fit then he could thrive.

Albian Ajeti – West Ham United (6m)

The 22-year-old arrives from Swiss side FC Basel to fill a Carroll-shaped hole at the London Stadium. Strikers have struggled for goals at the club over recent years so he has the opportunity to become a fan favourite if he can change that.
