Tottenham heading to Singapore and Shanghai for preseason tour in July

Tottenham have announced plans to travel to Singapore and Shanghai as part of their preseason tour in July ahead of the 2019-20 season.

Further details regarding opposition and venues have yet to be announced by the English Premier League club, though for now it likes like they will not be returning to Hong Kong following their 2017 friendly against Kitchee.

Spurs, who are third in the Premier League and have one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals after a 3-0 first-leg win over Borussia Dortmund last week, will visit the Lion City for the first time since 1995.

It will be the first team’s maiden trip to Shanghai, and first visit to mainland China since 2009 when they played in the Asia Trophy in Beijing.

“The tour will also enable us to join in the centennial celebrations of our global principal partner, AIA, whose roots trace back to Shanghai in 1919,” a statement said.

“The club and AIA have enjoyed a successful strategic partnership since the start of the 2013-2014 season. Our tour to Singapore and Shanghai will form an important part of the Pan-Asian life insurer’s centennial, with a 12-month programme of special events and activities across its 18 markets in the region having commenced in January.

“The visit also affords the club the opportunity to engage with our millions of fans across Asia including official supporters clubs in both countries in which we will be playing fixtures.”

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were in Hong Kong in May 2017 for a 4-1 friendly win over Hong Kong Premier League side Kitchee.

South Korean star Son Heung-min was on target for Spurs in front of 27,568 at Hong Kong Stadium in the end-of-season exhibition tie.
