WATCH: mass brawl breaks out between Chinese basketball players and fans outside team hotel
Tensions come to a head as Liaoning Leopards players return to their team hotel in Chengdu following a 109-104 defeat to Sichuan Blue Whales on Wednesday night
Tensions are high as the Chinese Basketball Association Finals head towards their climax, but those tensions spilled over spectacularly on Wednesday night when a mass brawl broke out between players and fans after game 3 of the ongoing series between Sichuan Blue Whales and the Liaoning Leopards.
Liaoning players were pictured returning to their team hotel after a narrow 109-104 to Sichuan when they were confronted by opposition fans.
Things got violent when fans began to heckle the players as they made their way into the hotel. Reports claim family members of the players retaliated to the heckles before the situation quickly escalated.
Hotel security appear to stand by as multiple assaults go on around them.
"There was no security staff to maintain order when our players got off the bus," Liaoning manager Yan Xiaoming said.
