Domestic helper arrested after Hong Kong mother accuses her of slapping five-year-old son in face

Police called to home in Kowloon City after mother checks footage from surveillance camera installed in flat

A Hong Kong domestic worker was arrested on Monday night on suspicion of slapping a five-year-old boy at their home in Kowloon City.

The boy’s mother, 36 years old and surnamed Fan, arrived at the family home on Tak Ku Ling Road shortly after 10pm to discover a 6cm mark on her son’s swollen face.

“The mother found the circumstances very suspicious, so she went through video from a surveillance camera installed in their home,” a police spokeswoman said.

“She claimed to have found that the domestic helper slapped the boy’s face in the afternoon, and therefore reported the case to police.”
