‘Dad, I love you’: friends of body-in-cement murder victim mourn him by sharing heartwarming video

Clip shows Cheung Man-li ‘paying’ for dinner by calling father to tell him ‘something important’

A heartwarming video has emerged online, showing the 28-year-old victim of a gruesome murder at a happier time.

Wearing a navy sweater, khaki pants and rimless spectacles, Cheung Man-li was seen chatting with a group of friends at a casual dinner in the four-and-a-half-minute clip.

Titled “Pay by Love”, the video ends with Cheung being asked to pay for the meal, not with cash or a credit card, but by calling his parents and telling them “something important”.

“Hey, Dad,” Cheung said to kick off the phone conversation.

“I’m having dinner with my friends now and I thought of you, so I called.”

“There’s something I want to tell you,” he continued.

“Thank you for raising me all these years. Dad, I love you. Let’s talk later,” he said before hanging up.

Cheung’s friends shared the video on social media to mourn his death, calling him a “generous, kind and passionate” man.

The clip was uploaded to YouTube on February 10 and is believed to be part of a campaign by a company to promote love and care for family and friends.

Taiwan no ‘typhoon shelter’ for body-in-cement murder suspects: Hong Kong police bring back trio

Cheung’s body was found encased in cement in a Tsuen Wan flat on March 29, three weeks after he was reported missing. Police believe he was killed when he visited the flat to demand payment of a HK$1 million debt.

In the latest development in the investigation, three male suspects were escorted back to Hong Kong on Tuesday evening from Taiwan, where they had been holed up since last month.

Upon landing, the trio were arrested for conspiracy to commit murder and taken to Tsuen Wan police station.

A 18-year-old girl connected to the case returned from Taipei on Monday under similar arrangements. She remains in custody.

Nine people have been arrested so far, although none have been charged.
