Hong Kong police are searching for at least three men who stole six bags of gold powder worth an estimated HK$3 million (US$383,160) after holding up two women at knifepoint in the New Territories on Tuesday.

The robbery took place at around 7.25am outside the Cambridge Plaza industrial building on Cheuk Wan Street in Sheung Shui, the force said.

“A preliminary investigation showed two Chinese men thought to be aged 20 to 30 threatened the victims with knives and stole their two pieces of luggage,” a police source said.

The insider said the robbers fled in a white car driven by a third man.

The luggage contained six bags of gold powder with an estimated value of HK$3 million, with the items’ exact worth yet to be officially confirmed, the source said.

The two victims were unharmed during the robbery.

Officers mounted a search of the areas, but no arrests have been made so far.

Police said the two robbers wore black clothing and face masks during the hold-up.

Detectives from the Tai Po district crime squad are investigating the case, with officers checking surveillance camera footage for evidence.
